Age: 48
Other Characters: N/A
Name: Vincent Valentine
Canon: Final Fantasy VII (Original Game)
Canon Point: Shortly after the events of the original game end; once the party go their separate ways and as signs of 'Midgar Pox' (Geostigma) are something people are becoming aware of.
Age: 27 Physically, Approx mid-50s chronologically.
History Link Here
Using the novel, 'On the Way To A Smile' and the Dirge of Cerberus flashback as a reference; Vincent and Yuffie stayed in Midgar to help evacuate as many people as possible while Meteor was still in the air while the remaining group went to fight Sephiroth and Jenova in the North Crater. Afterward the group met up at the spring in the City of the Ancients to commune with Aerith. Vincent was the first to leave, which largely started the party's dissolution and the two year interval until the Advent Children movie.
Vincent's demeanor suggests a stern man, mysterious and sometimes cold. Even younger, he preferred solitude over company, showing signs of being easily flustered in social situations which aren't purely professional. Particularly so if it were someone he had feelings for. Locking himself away and extreme guilt only amplified this natural tendency, leading people to assume he has little or no interest in events around him. He's slow to warm to people, slower still to open up; this latter perhaps reasonably so. Social, outgoing events are extremely exhausting to him, causing a tendency to retreat to lonely corners if he feels he must stay and leave the moment he's done.
But underneath the cold demeanor lies a great deal of emotion. He possesses very little in the way of hatred for anything in particular, believing most have their own circumstances and it would be hypocritical at best given his own past as a Turk. But those rare occasions it manifests, it is absolute. Likewise he is not quick to anger, though it would often be for the sake of others rather than himself and particularly for those who have come to be regarded as friends. Despite a well-stated preference to being left alone with his own issues, Vincent can be cajoled into frivolous activities because of his own personal interest or to learn more about the people he journeyed with. He has a quiet, dry, and often sly sense of humor that belies his outward demeanor and catches people unaware. He cares about what happens around him and cares deeply, enough to drown himself in self-imposed guilt for his failures.
As a victim of terrible experiments, Vincent has suffered through massive physical and mental trauma. Severe nightmares plague him, blending the events and his guilt over failing to save his beloved from her own fate into an nigh-inescapable morass of guilt and self-loathing. Awakening to find himself an immortal, monstrous product of Hojo's experiments and Lucrecia's efforts to save him did no favors to his state of mind, with half-glimpsed memories of the procedures leaving him confused and uncertain if the latter's efforts had been made for his benefit or her scientific curiosity and anger toward his failures. Though this easily lead to a virtually unwavering belief such punishment would have been no less than he deserved.
Emerging from his decades-long slumber had given him a wider world in which to process what happened to him but more importantly what is and isn't his sin to bear. Through traveling with Cloud and the others, he learned that he couldn't stay still, mired in the past. Though he had no interest in doing by settling in a community with its social pressures and his own internal, literal monsters to corral, neither would he return to the Shinra Mansion's basement. He chose to keep moving forward.
Note: We did some talk about mapping out his abilities but let me also know if you think something else listed should be broken down a bit more too (whether I misremember/misunderstood or something on reflection needs a bit more consideration) ! I am 100% down to making sure we are balancing this lad properly.
Enhanced Senses (Active) - Somewhere between a strong connection to the planet and the monster-senses, Vincent exhibits extrasensory abilities and a keen sense to discern when something is amiss in the natural order. He seems able to sense oddities, fiends, and monsters despite there being some distance between himself and the cause. He's probably hard to sneak up on as well.
Indestructible Body (Inactive) - Because of Hojo's experiments, Vincent possesses an 'indestructible, ageless' body. He hasn't grown any older in the near thirty years since the ordeal and he recovers in a short period even from normally fatal wounds, seeming to return from even a full loss of his body. He can still feel pain, be rendered unconscious and experience 'status ailments', particularly magic-induced ones in most scenarios with varying degrees of severity.
Telekinesis/Gravity Control/Spoopy Ability (Active) - While never completely defined in canon, Vincent has abilities that are beyond the cinematic norms of FF7 characters/use of materia. Heightened reflexes and impossible jumps (such as jumping up to a cliff edge as high as an office building with zero effort ) and treating gravity or physics like afterthoughts (when Cloud first meets him, or standing on an edge that should tip or tilt a container under his weight alone) are all traits of this. Good Reference Example
Chaos Factor/Stagnant Mako (Inactive) - Part of the process Lucrecia used to stablize Vincent's body, he is infused with a type of natural Lifestream byproduct which is also part of what gives birth to Chaos. This grants him immunity to its overwhelming, erosive effects and may apply defense against similar types of energies. (Examples of this are Nero's abilities in Remake Intergrade/Nero in Dirge of Cerberus).
Limit Break(s) - Metamorphosis. Because of the experiments Vincent underwent, he undergoes transformations into various monstrous shapes that enhance certain qualities. At this time he still has little control and can't do this at will (though he is working on it). His memories during the transformation are tenuous at best but he does manage to keep himself from attacking allies and friends. All transformations seem to heal him up and he becomes immune to many forms of mental influence (charm for instance, mind control) and many forms of physical transformation. This probably doesn't block someone from trying to get to him telepathically.
Level 1 Galian Beast - a bipedal beast with similar attributes to a behemoth. With claws and fangs and higher reflexes he attacks much as a beast might with high accuracy and swiftness (melee). He can also charge the air with fire (Beast Flare) and cause damage to enemies in a moderate area (ranged).
Level 1 - Active | Beast Flare - Inactive
Level 2 Death Gigas - A monster similar in appearance to the classic movie 'Frankenstein's Monster', death gigas is slower, with massive increases in defense and endurance (hp). Extraordinary physical strength means if he hits, it will hurt. Also capable of a lightning-elemental area magical attack called Livewire.
Level 2 - Inactive | Livewire - Inactive
Level 3 Hellmasker - A monstrous humanoid with a hockey mask and a chainsaw. Gets a moderate boost to defenses but no real extra on strength or speed. His attacks become a mixture of swinging the chainsaw around wildly or inflicting a nightmarish soup of status ailments on a single foe. (Sleep, Poison, Silence, Confusion, Frog and Small(Mini)).
Level 3 - Inactive | Nightmare - Inactive
Level 4 Chaos - While Chaos is one of his transformations and is Vincent, it also exists as an entity on its own right. Lucrecia's actions trying to save Vincent after Hojo deemed his experiments a 'failure' paved the way for Chaos to merge with Vincent. In truth, Chaos is a WEAPON- the being who will appear when the planet can no longer sustain life. Its purpose is to send all life back to the Lifestream so that Omega, another WEAPON, can launch with it into the cosmos to find another planet to continue life upon. While Vincent eventually learns he can keep his humanity while Chaos without it for a time, there is a specialized materia within him that serves as the actual catalyst as to why he didn't lose himself to Chaos long ago. Chaos is capable of flight and extremely powerful attacks, including possible 'instant death'.
Level 4 - Inactive | Satan Slam - Inactive
Magic (Inactive?) - While materia's generally the only means on his world for using magic, Vincent is a decently strong spellcaster in that regard, with a fairly generous amount of mana to draw on.
(Question: Would 'capable of using magic' be considered a passive thing or need to be regained as well. Since Vincent is so powerful I am not sure- none of his materia-on-hand will be active at the start- but there's also a connection between magic ability and his limit breaks so I want to be clear on this one! Also it would be relevant in the sense of 'can he use someone ELSE'S materia' situations).
Skills of Note - Vincent is a former member of Shinra Company's Turks, a group of specialists who were responsible for investigations, intelligence, security and the dirty work. Vincent is trained in a wide range of skills that facilitate the work he performed. This would include hand-to-hand combat, intelligence, stealth, surveillance, security and any number of skills such operatives would find useful in their line of work. His particular specialty was in firearms and marksmanship; he was considered the best of his time. He seems more than capable of reading and understanding scientific reports on a fundamental level; likely a combination of vested interest in what happened to him and having a scientist father.
A pink ribbon - Not an accessory, this ribbon is worn on his upper right arm in memory of Aerith. It is a plain ribbon.
Outsider - Similar in design to a .357 Colt python. A well balanced, endgame weapon. Materia within can grow at a normal rate (Inactive until regain).
Death Penalty - the game's 'ultimate weapon' for Vincent, a Colt M1855 revolving rifle in design. Gains strength the more enemies Vincent kills. (This feature's boost will be inactive pending regain)
Ziedrich - While there is conventional armor pieces, Gaia's main defenses come in the form of bangles and armlets. Has strong magic and physical defense. Ziedrich cuts 'elemental' damage by half (this includes cut, slash, shoot, hit, punch). Also enhances strength and magic. (Other than possible materia use, these special traits will be inactive pending regain. Should the default defense be as well? Bangles are pretty weird/magiclike armor after all.)
Materia - Exit Rank 1 (Inactive)
Speed Rank 3 (Inactive)
Lightning Rank 2 (Inactive)
Vincent has a materia grafted into his body. Called the Ancient Materia/Protomateria, it is directly linked to Chaos in significance and is relevant to controlling or at least aiding in controlling Chaos. (As an aside it's also a control for Omega, who Chaos is intertwined with. But without a Lifestream this second part should remain irrelevant to Revan.)
I like monster transformations, I like vehicles and I like guns. Vincent is a man who puts up a lot of effort of staying away from people and keeping away from crowds. He's also going to have a certain trouble struggling as the Revan transformations strive to take away the last vestige of humanity he's kept hold of. However, as much as he isn't thrilled with the convoy, this isn't his world and he knows the value of sticking together in a group to find out what's going on.
Vincent is keen to get back home and that means finding the person responsible and getting himself back home; as well as any friends he (reluctantly) makes along the way. Especially if those friends are ones from back home themselves.
1. [Undead] The two examples (Vampire or Wraith) are pretty interchangeable to me as is any interesting variations. I like the idea of thematically appropriate but trying to avoid repeating one of his already-existing forms.
2. [Elemental] Kind of a suggestion from a friend on plurk! Kind of an interesting medium between my first and third choice in levels of interest and exploring an elemental affinity could be interesting!
3. [Fae] ??? - Would a hellhound be suitable? Yes. But I want to toss in something that isn't really covered by any of his Limit Breaks if the first two picks are a concern. I would however, like consideration for a fae idea that isn't pixie or pooka.
Effectively this. A gothic themed hotrod (yes that is the Munsters family car) with the Fast trait.
